Our Imam Shuaib

Imam Shuaib is an American Muslim Imam (religious leader) He was born in Wisconsin, and raised in Chicago. He completed 4 years of initial studies of the Quran and Arabic Language at the Institute of Islamic Studies in Dewsbury, England. Then he travelled to Karachi, Pakistan where he enrolled in a traditional Islamic University – Dar ul Uloom (House of knowledge). There he studied Hadith and Islamic law for 5 years. In 1994 he completed his course in Islamic Theology. He received formal authorization (Ijaza) in Hadith, from his teachers.

Since 1999, Imam Shuaib has served the religious needs of the Muslim Community in Utah. Currently he is serving as Imam and director of religious affairs at Utah Islamic Center located in West Jordan City, Utah.
Imam Shuaib has served as the religious guide, for the past 15 years, for groups, from the US performing the sacred journey of Hajj to Mecca and in addition has travelled on various missionary trips to Central and South America.

In the past Imam Shuaib has served on various panels and commissions and has received recognition for his work including:

* Served on the Salt Lake City Interfaith Roundtable
* Served on the State of Utah Martin Luther King Human Rights Commission
* Religious editor for Iqra International Publications
* Recipient  of the Ambassador of Peace Award  – World Peace Federation
* Recipient of Community Service Award – Utah Office of Ethnic Affairs

Imam Shuaib enjoys hiking and playing tennis. He is married and has 4 children.

Education Committee

Education Committee is responsible to over-see Sunday School and our future full time preschool program at UIC Masjid.

Kids Committee

-

To organize events for children age 5 to 12, to help lay the foundations of becoming strong Muslims, such as weekly story time.

Youth Boys Committee

-

To develop programs for our youth that help them become strong Muslims.

Youth Girls Committee

To develop programs for our youth that help them become strong Muslims.

Civic Engagement

-

This committee will encourage Muslim to be civically engaged (such as voting) and to work with governmental and non-governmental organizations, that help Muslims to give back to society such as volunteering opportunities.

Inter-faith & Community Out-Reach

This committee is responsible for reaching out to Non-Muslims to help educate them about Islam through activities such as Meet the Muslims, speak to School children that visit us on field trips and to organize inter-faith activities with other places of worship. This committee is also responsible to organize the Open-House programs.

Building Maintenance

-

This committee is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Mosque. This committee will also be responsible to maintain the store and for renting the Multi-purpose hall (as a Banquet hall), in our New Mosque. This committee is also responsible for the A/V equipment.

Communications & Social Media

-

To communicate UIC programs  and activities via text and email and to enhance our presence on Social Media platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. This committee is also responsible for keeping our Website and our You Tube channel update and making sure the social media presence is impactful.

Grievance Committee

-

Grievance Committee is responsible to amicably resolve any disputes that might arise between community members on UIC premises.
This committee has 3 members.

Zakat Committee

-

Zakat Committee is responsible to review, process and distribute money to  the applicants who apply for funds, in their time of need.

This committee has 3 members.

Ramadan Affairs Committee

-

All Ramadan related activities, such as Daily hosting of Iftar, Khat-Me Quran and organizing the annual community Iftar.

Special Events Committee

-

Arranging the annual Seerat-un-Nabi program and Fund raising Dinners and other annual events.
NOTE : The Social Affairs and the Special Events committee will work closely together.

Arranging the monthly Pot-luck and the annual Eid Festival.
