12/09/2007 Below is a reference to a query and response I initiated to Outback Steakhouse Restaurants in regards to their meat after a friend had requested me to do so insisting that their meat is Halal certified. You can read the details of the response. For your reading / eating pleasure! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Good Day, Lamb served in all of the domestic Outback Steakhouse locations in the United States is imported from New Zealand. The lamb has received certification of Halal Accreditation from The Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand. Please understand that the Lamb will be prepared on a flat grill at 400 degrees F. and that there are other protein items that are cooked on this grill that include beef, chicken, and pork. Customers who desire Halal preparation should ask that the lamb be prepared in separate saute’ pan instead of on the grill in order to make sure there is no cross over from other products. Please understand that the preparation time for the lamb in the saute’ pan will be longer than if it were prepared on the grill. Ask that the lamb be served without the Cabernet sauce and also that the steamed vegetables be prepared without the “seasoned butter” which contains a bit of bacon in the seasoning. Kindly ask the manager on duty upon arrival at the restaurant for your special request. The steaks and chicken used at Outback are not Halal.
